"The idea that you can merchandise candidates for high office like breakfast cereal is the ultimate indignity to the democratic process."
-Democratic candidate Adlai Stevenson, 1956

From the quotation above we can conclude that Adlai Stevenson as a presidential candidate didn’t really like the way of campaign by advertising excessively. Because it will spend too much money that means lavish. Campaign that should be done is a campaign normally. A candidate is not merchandise that could be brought along to be shown off and be paid for that. It might be such a contemptation for him. A candidate should have thought for the programs that he has seriously, whereas being a presidential candidate wasn’t a trifling thing. Before being a candidate of a party, he has to pass the nomination convention to decide which candidate who will represent the party. And it is not an easy thing whereas there are only two major parties in America that will propose the candidate. Candidates are not only campaigning directly but also using the mass media that available. They are campaigning directly in front of the citizens by going around the 50 states, and using the mass media such as newspaper, television, and internet. Those media help by supplying special columns for the candidates. Television becomes the preference of candidate by combining the audio and visual that effectively makes communications. The fast of internet access believed to be the appropriate medium to get the votes. So the candidate usually makes his own website to attract the interest of citizens.

Considering that it is not easy to be a presidential candidate, so it is such ridiculous if candidates being like merchandise that will only promote to get profit for certain sides.
